Girl's Track Earns BSC Championship

The Lady Wildcats earned a share of the BSC title in an exciting 68-68 tie vs. Newton North. Both teams finished the season with very impressive records of 6-0-1 after an extremely exciting showdown at Weymouth.

The boy's finished a fantastic season at 6-1and both Weymouth teams will look forward to hosting the Bay State Conference All-Star Meet on Wednesday May 15th. This is a premier showcase of athleticism featuring all 24 teams from the BSC including some of the best track athletes in Massachusetts.

Weymouth Football 25 Framingham 15

The football team earned the BSC title with a big victory at Framingham. The team improved to 8 and 2 with a tremendous defensive effort led by senior captain S. Murphy who registered 15 tackles, along with an interception and a fumble recovery. The offense was led by junior QB D. Harrison who threw one touchdown to K. Cunningham and ran for three others.

The team will now host Walpole on Thanksgiving morning at 10:00 AM before hosting Brockton in the playoff semi-final on Tuesday November 27th at 7:30.

The Thanksgiving Day pre-sale tickets can be purchased all week in the Athletic Office at WHS. Senior and student pre-sale tickets are $5 while adult pre-sale tickets are $7. All tickets on game day will be $10 - so please make every effort to get your tickets early.

Congratulation sto the Boy's Soccer team on a great season - culminating in a thrilling Division One South Sectional final against the eventual State Champions from Needham. The boys defeated Oliver Ames 3-2 in an exciting overtime semi-final to reach the championship game and played Needham down to the wire in fantastic final match. With a final record of 16-2-4 the team provided so much excitement and so many memories for their community. Well done Weymouth!

Bailey-Smith Wins State Decathlon

Congratulations to senior K. Bailey-Smith on his victory in the State Decathlon. Bailey-Smith won the All-State Title in the high jump on Tuesday (for the second year in a row) before edging teammate T. Mulcahy for the Decathlon title on Wednesday and Thursday.

He will represent Weymouth one last time when he joins C. McLevedge in the Shriner's All-Star Football game at Gillette Stadium this Friday night at 7:00. Bailey-Smith will be playing his collegiate home games at Gillette this Fall after accepting a full scholarship to play football for UMass.

Kimball Wins 400 Hurdle State Title

Junior J. Kimball won the Division One State Title in the 400 meter hurdles at the Division One meet with a time of 1 minute and 3 seconds, setting a new meet record. The girls team placed 6th at the DI Championship meet. M. Barker was 2nd in the 2 mile, J. Tevenan was 6th in the mile, K. Pearce was 8th in the high jump, and the 4x800 team of B. Jaklitsch, M. Fitzgibbon, A. Brady, and J. Tevenan was 4th, while the 4x400 team of K. Kelly, M. Perriello, C. Perry, and J. Kimball was 5th. The team will compete at the All-State meet in Fitchburg this Saturday.

Bailey-Smith and Mulcahy Win Track State Tiltes

Seniors T. Mulcahy and K. Bailey-Smith each won State titles on Saturday at the Massachusetts Division One Championships. Bailey-Smith repeated as the State Champion in the High Jump with a leap of 6'11, added a state title in the Long Jump (22 Feet) and achored the 4x100 relay to a fourth place finish, along with R. Homere, D. Fong, and D. Fernandez. Mulcahy won the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 54.78 seconds, finished fourth in the triple jump (44 Feet), and seventh in the Long Jump 20'11.

These mighty efforts led the team to a fourth place finish in the State and qulified each of them for the All-State Championships this Saturday in Fitchburg.

Boy's Track Wins BSC Title

The final track meet of the year came down to the Bay State Conference's best track teams - Weymouth vs. Newton North. Both teams entered the meet undefeated at 6 and 0 and in the end both remained undefeated after a 68-68 tie. The teams will split the BSC title after an exciting meet at Newton. Sophomore D. Harrison finished the anchor leg of the final relay in dramatic fashion, winning that event and knotting the score at 68.

Both teams will host the Bay State Conference All-Star Meet this Wednesday at 5:00 on the track. This is truly a showcase of some of the greatest athleticism in the State.

Singles victories by Senior R. Smith and Junior M. Norton left the match tied at two and dramatically set the stage for the first doubles team of A. Hutchinson and J. Rieman. The duo responded securing a 6-3, 6-3 match-clinching upset.

The Wildcats are currently 3-6, but look to improve their record in the upcoming weeks as the squad has made great strides since the opening of the season.

Amazan broke a 20 year old school record to become the state's best thrower in the shot put, going 37'10". M. Darling won the long jump, triple jump, and 100 hurdles, and J. Kimball won the 100, 400, and placed 2nd in the triple jump and high jump. Other winners were captains B. Bechtold in the 400 hurdles, B. Jaklitsch in the mile, J. Tevenan in the 2 mile, as well as M. Fitzgibbon in the 800, and the 4x400 relay of E. Stevens, K. Kelly, Bechtold and Tevenan.

The team will compete in the Division One Relays on Saturday before traveling to Needham on Tuesday.

Without question the team and individual accomplshents at WHS are directly related to the commitment made by our athletes to improve their fitness level in the off season. This program services hundreds of WHS student-athletes and is also a great way to stay connected with friends, and make new friends, while working toward your personal goals.

The Strength and Condtioning program meets Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 3:15 to 7:30, beginning Monday June 27th. The program is run by WHS staff and the fee for the summer is $25.

Weymouth High Wins Boy's All-Sport Title

Congratulations to all WHS student-athletes, coaches and teams on a fantastic 2010-2011 school year. WHS won seven conference titles and earned over thirty individual all-scholastic honors this year. The Bay State Conference Boy's All-Sport Title was awared to Weymouth based upon the finish of all of our boys sports teams. Have a safe ad productive summer as we prepare for another exciting year for Weymouth High.

Softball reaches the Division One South Semi-Final

The Lady Wildcats continue to roll. After knocking off the #5 seed, the team went to Sandwich High and defeated the #4 seed by a score of 8-4. Weymouth will play in the semi-finals Tuesday night vs. King Philip at Taunton High School at 7:00 PM.

Bailey-Smith wins the State Championship!

Congratulations to junior K. Bailey-Smith on his high jump victory at the Massachusetts All-State Championships on Saturday. Bailey-Smith followed up last week's Division One Eastern Mass title with the All-State crown with a high jump of 6'8.

All athletic opportunities, policies and expectations will be covered. It is also an opportunity to register for all Fall sports and meet the high school coaches. Girl's track finishes 7th at Div. 1 Eastern Mass Meet

The Lady Wildcats had a top ten finish in a very strong field on Saturday qualifying 6 for the All-States this Saturday at Bridgewater State. The 4x800 meter relay team (J. Corcoran, A. Brady, B. Jaklitsch and J. Tevenan) took second place. Sophomore J. Kimball finished 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles and 6th in the triple jump. Senior J. Glover finished 4h in the long jump, senior J. Corcoran finished fifth in the two mile.

Sollowin and Bailey-Smith win Division One Titles

Senior S. Sollowin won the boy's two mile (9:18) while junior teammate K. Bailey-Smith won the long jump (21'1.5) and the high jump (6'10) at the Division One Eastern Mass State Meet. Also qualifying for the All-States next Saturday for the boy's team were junior T. Mulcahy (3rd 400 hurdles), senior F. Kariuki (4th 400 hurdles), who will join teammates M. Jordan and T. Tuplin in the 4x400 relay.

Baseball team finishes the season in style

The boys defeated BSC champion, and rival, Braintree on the road to finish off the regular season with a BSC record of 8 and 8. Junior S. McKay pitched nine great innings for the Wildcats in a thrilling finale for this years senior class.

The boys defeated Braintree 4-1 for their fourth victory in a row. At 8 and 7 the boys will host Natick on Wednesday at 3:45, Walpole on Thursday at 5:30, Quincy on Friday at 3:45 and Dedham on Saturday at 10 AM. Two wins will qualify the team for the State Tournament!

The ladies earned their ninth win of the season with a home victory over Needham. The team will travel to Brookline on Monday looking to punch their ticket to the State tournament with win number 10. With a BSC title still a possibility the ladies will quickly refocus as they travel to Milton on Tuesday.

The boys look forward to an exciting, and very busy finish this week, when they play five home matches with a tournament spot in the balance. Up first the boys will host Norwood on Monday followed by a match with Braintree on Tuesday.

For the second day in a row the baseball team earned a close BSC victory to earn their sixth win of the season. In the top of the 10th sophomore O. Colarusso stole home plate for the go ahead run to win the game in exciting fashion. The team sets their sights on BSC baseball power Walpole in a home game this Friday at Player Field.

Track finishes the regular season at 6 and 1

The track teams defeated Needham at home to finish a very impressive regular season. Weymouth will host the annual Bay State Conference Track All-Star Meet on Wednesday May 18th at 4:00 PM. All 24 boys and girls teams from the league will send their best athletes to compete for the championships in their respective events. It is truly an amazing display of athleticism - well worth a trip out to the track to cheer on our track stars.
